Players on maternity leave / handball mamas

Postby Wbk » Wed Jul 17, 2013 12:08 am

I hope it's not such a horrible idea to open topic like that :) It belongs to the women's handball as well, and it's really nice from the view of life in the main. ;)

Please add the other players you remember ;)

Mariana Târcă's daughter, Sorina (14 already) is considered to be one of the most promising players in Romania. Her mother said it on several occasions and it seems she even got some individual prize on the occasion of a national tournament in Romania. Mariana appreciates Sorina is more gifted and better trained than she was at her age and promises that in a few years, if she perseveres, she will be ready to play at senior level.

I remember Sorina since she was 4-5 and she was running in the Traian sports hall with this small handball and throwing at the goal, defended by Huțupan :) oj, time passes by fast...

From last decade's Romanian NT:

- Simona Gogîrlă has a daughter, Alicia Maria (10)
- Aurelia Brădeanu has a son, David (4)
- Ana Maria Șomoi (nee Lazer) has a daughter, Maria Andreea (4)
- Luminița Huțupan-Dinu has a daughter, Ștefania (3)
- Ionela Stanca has a son, Yannick (1)
- Paula Ungureanu has a son, Paul Ioan (1.5)
- Valentina Ardean-Elisei has a son, Robert (6 months)

Please feel free to add to the list or correct any info.
A lot of boys being born by handball mothers in Romania. Interesting "trend" given by the last 3 mothers - they all have boys :)

Thanks for the info, @mikh!

More players I noticed taking break due-to pregnancy in the last period:

Kari Mette Johansen (NOR)
Kari Aalvik Grimsbo (NOR)
Aneta Peraica (CRO)
Petra Popluharova (SVK)
...

But my memory is bad and short, so feel free to help me to add even more ;)

Polina Kuznetsova (nee Vyakhireva) became mother today and it's son, named Yaroslav. Congratulations!

Before yesterday, it's great motivation for the newly became aunt Anna to bring some golden toy from Junior EURO in Denmark for her nephew

Yes as far as I know. Can't remember which is her favorite shooting arm (don't know if it's the one in the photo).
Well, she should be out there in a couple of years. The youngest group age for which we have a NT (what we call "cadete") is going to be formed by players born in 1997/8. But they don't have any Euro competition. She's born in 1999 so it's not completely impossible that we might see her 1 year before her age proper age group. Until then we can follow her in youth competitions in Romania.

It should be 98/99 imho, because international active younger age categories are 94/95 and 96/97 at the moment.
