2015/2016 Women's Champions League

Postby Corbantis » Fri May 15, 2015 7:46 am

Quite early, I know, but we have a couple of spots taken already for Group Phase :)

FTC
Buducnost
Rostov
FCM (Esbjerg?)
Fleury (Metz?)
Thüringer
Vardar
Larvik
Lublin
Baia Mare (CSM?)
--------------------
Krim - my guess
Hypo - my guess
Savehof - my guess
Podravka - my guess

For the qualifiers:
Győr
Esbjerg (FCM)
------------------
CSM (Baia Mare?) - my guess
Buxtehuder - my guess
Dalfsen - my guess
Glassverkelt - my guess
Lada - my guess
Metz (Fleury?) - - my guess

Good guess :) but...

Not yet, two matches to go.

Corbantis wrote:Buxtehuder - my guess

I'm almost certain that they won't apply for a wildcard, the CL is just too expensive for most german teams. If HC Leipzig qualify for a european spot they will apply and probably they have an OK'ish chance to get one.

Will Bera Bera take part? And what about the Croatian and Serbian teams...
idle banter.

Well, THC beat Buxte big time the other day (32-26). Buxte has a 1 point lead in the championship, played 25 matches, and will go to Göppingen (23.05.2015). THC played only 24 matches, and will go to Göppingen (19.05.2015) and plays against Leipzig at home (23.05.2015). If everything goes well, Buxte will end up with 46 points, and THC with 47. Altogether, THC has better chance to defend their title, IMO.

Leipzig will end up either 4th or 5th, and I hardly can imagine they ask for a Wild Card.

Yes, that's the most likely outcome. I'm just saying that there are still two games to go and they lost a few points in away games this season.

Leipzig confirmed a few days ago that they will certainly ask for a wildcard if the qualify for a european competition.

What about Bera Bera, do you know something? :)
idle banter.

Well Spain is still struggling with this economical crisis and to be honest they are not CHL material...maybe worth for a qualifier. Podravka (champion of 2014/2015) and Radnicki Kragujevac (champion of 2014/2015) will defo go for a spot

Seriously? A team ending up 4th in German Bundesliga applies for a WildCard?

Would be a pity if they get into the group phase directly, without enjoying the fruits of their labor. ETO fought hard for this qualification, they deserve it.

They cannot give a spot to Győr directly in the Group Phase...they need to qualify.

Well, I don't know what's in the heads of EHF guys. But it would be reasonable to have a similar (not same, but similar) system to Women CL, than Men CL. I mean, it's crystal clear, that Russia, Hungary, Romania, Denmark can delegate (at least) 2 teams to improve the level of this competition.

The competition is not as big as in the Men CL of course, but the current system is absolutely bad

Agreed. If they did adopt the Final 4, they can adopt this one too.
Make it 24 teams or 20 teams, the mens system is much cooler than the womens

24 teams is a good idea, but there's not 24 teams of CL quality. This should be an option from next season, when we'll have only EHF Cup, as CWC goes to history.

Ranking for 2015/16 should be :
pot1 - Budućnost, FTC, Larvik, DEN1,
pot2 - Vardar, ROU1, Rostov, Krim
pot3 - GER1, FRA1,

Other teams are not sure imo. Since Hypo, Savehof, Podravka, Lublin, are horrible nowadays, I guess that EHF will change last year's format, and will put more teams coming from qualifications.
I think they will send Savehof directly to pot3 (since they played Main Round 2 times), and Hypo instead of Podravka, because of more success in CWC.

pot4 - should be for teams from qualifications...
Also it's not impossible to have a wild card tournament winner in pot3.

Can't wait for seedings! :)

Why not having 4 groups with 5 teams in each one of them?
(with 3 teams going through, the group winners qualify directly to quarters, and the 2nd 3rd ranked teams play 1/8 finals?)
That's 20 teams, and we do have 20 CL quality teams.

Well, I doubt they'd accept 20 teams. One team would have free week every round, and that's what EHF don't need at all. :)
I think that only change can be from 16 to 24 teams, but from season 2016/17 when we'll have EHF Cup with group stage and qualifications, and final four probably.
Who knows what EHF people's plan will be? We can discuss only. :D
But they MUST change something for the season 2016/17... So many good teams playing for one cup, it's quite boring. Only if the winner of EHF secures the CL group stage place next season. Otherwise that Cup is without sense.

Won't be Cup Winners Cup in new season?

How many Cups will be in next season? CL, EHF Cup and Challenge Cup?

Well, not just the Spaniards IMO. It's not the best for other teams, that german teams have an eternal home field in the final.

No change for 2015/16. As of 2016/17 the CWC will be cancelled.
In conclusion, I declare that EHF must be destroyed

Don't know about Budapest, but Cologne have been confirmed as hosts until 2020, with the possibility that only one of these finals to move to a different city.

Probably the deal is more or less implied for the women's event being held in Budapest.

It's confirmed, Bera Bera won't participate in next year's CL. They will try to register for EHF Cup or CWC but no other Spanish team will take their place in CL.

HC Leipzig decided against applying for a wild card and will therefore play in the EHF-Cup next season.
