2018/19 EHF-Cup

Postby Lucy » Tue May 15, 2018 9:46 am

Time to start a new topic
Which team from you country is ready?

I think EHF-cup has been a good cup when they cancelled cupwinnercup
and have all the second team in one cup

From Norway:

Stabæk
is ready for EHF-cup since they were number 2 in the Norwegian cup
But its a bit funny, because they was nr 11 out of 12 team in the league, so next years they play e-cup and the norwegian second league

Larvik
is ready for EHF-cup, but they are sending an applications to EHF for an extra place i Champions league

Storhamar
is ready for EHF-cup. 9 years since they last participate

Other years Norway has asked for an extra place, so if they do Byåsen will participate
Another facts is that Tertnes didnt qualify this year. For the first time in 10 years

In Germany Bietgheim and Buxtehude are sure to finish 2nd and 3rd - so they are assured already for a place. The former wants to apply for a CL-wildcard. But that has no effect on the overall places.

For the remaining places (idealy another 2 - as most countries have a good chance of applying for a wild card for the EHF-Cup) it is too close to call with just 1 point seperating #4 and #8 at the moment.

HCM Râmnicu Vâlcea

SCM Craiova (EHF Cup current champion)

Măgura Cisnădie (with Brazilian armada, GK Gabriela Moreschi from Larvik also joined)

+ probably HC Zalău which will request wild-card

SCM Craiova could move to the Champions League.

From Hungary, 3 teams will surely participate:

Érd Handball (most probably they end up 3rd, they were runner-up of the Hungarian Cup)
Dunaújvárosi KKA (surely ending up 4th in the championship)
Siófok KC (expected to be 5th, they ended up 4th in the Hungarian Cup)
(Váci NKSE has less chance to qualify, as they play against FTC in the last round)

The other two teams are the CL participants of this season FCM and NFH, that gets relegated to EHF-Cup due to bad performance ... ;) ehem nonsense aside  . They get the places as no.3 and 4 in the Danish League main round .
I am guessing that Viborg as 6 after Team Esbjerg will apply for a wild card . :-k
FCM will appear with their new name Herning-Ikast Håndbold.

Oldenburg won the German Cup yesterday. Big suprise. As the cup winner they have a place certain in the EHF-Cup. But they already said before the weekend that they won't take their place part as it's too expensive for them.

If a german team said is too expansive that means "something is rotten in the state of Danmark" and EHF must think another form of EHF Cup competition system; may be avoiding very long distance up to higher phases of competition (a neighbours regional groups system?),new tv rights...etc... Group-west(Holland-France-Spain-Portugal) group-center (Germany-Austria-Poland-Czech-Italy) group-north (Danmark-Norway-Sweden) group south-east( Slovenia-Croatia-Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Serbia ) group far-east(Russia,Belorussia,Ukraine)....and than next levell, groups winners(place 1 and 2) combined but in the same neighbour criterias ... well...,something like this...

You must remember that womens handball in Germany isn't financed by massive tax grants or sponsors like Audi, Telekom, BMW. It is very often a local thing in towns or small cities of 100.000 inhabitants (which is quite small in Germany), with the money coming from mostly smaller sponsors.

I personally don't think that the EHF-Cup is too expensive. You got to keep the level up to a certain degree if you want to have an international competition.

Althought I find it weird that referees from Russia have to be flown in for a EHF-Cup qualifying round when the game takes place in France/Spain/Germany.

But tonight Oldenburg seems to have second thought about their possible participation and may take part after all....
idle banter.

The Norwegian club Vipers Kristiansand sayd that they actually made money on participate in EHF-cup
Around 12000 euro per round (home and away). Except the game to Brest and Lada. But the home/away against Copenhagen, Viborg, Craiova and Paris they had a surplus on around 40 000 euro. So you can make money on participate in EHF-cup

There is a huge difference between male and female handball in Germany. German female clubs are not wealthy at all. And Oldenburg has serious financial problems and a very small roaster. They surely can not play twice a week, even if travel and organizing would be for no money.
In conclusion, I declare that EHF must be destroyed

But Hungary and Denmark each get 4 slots in the EHF Cup, no? At least they did this season. That would mean Vác has qualified as well.

Officially only 3. But every Top-7 country can ask for a +1 in the EHF-Cup if they aks for an additional wild card (which most of them did in the past two years). It's not officially written down anywhere (not that I know of anyway), but the EHF does seem to have a few extra spaces lying around which they distribute quite happily and without too much fuzz.
idle banter.

Silkeborg-Voel applied and got a wildcard this season. Last season TTH got an extra spot as Cup Winners Cup champs. I guess the new EHF cup format has opened for more wildcards.
Surely Viborg will apply for wildcard for the 2018/19 season I think . :-k

German cup winner Oldenburg finally says Nein to a particiption in next seasons EHF-Cup. Reasons given are the extra costs of "100.000 € or more" and also "sporting reasons".

It has to be said that their cup win has already been a big surprise (considering the lack of performance in the league) and with several players leaving it would have been a difficult qualifying phase and an impossible group stage (if they would even get that far).
idle banter.

BVB Dortmund manages to take fourth place and thus the final (official) spot for the EHF-Cup. Metzingen crept up to fifth after a terrible season - they are first in line for a EHF-Cup wild card.

Boden Handball takes one place for the Challenge Cup. Since they only finished eight in Sweden it's fair to assume that some other Swedish clubs said no thanks to participating in the EHF/Challenge-Cup.
