As I'm daily looking at the reconstruction works of our hypersupermodern hall in Bratislava, I also think it could be the most shameful championship over the past years :D

Handball and Ice hockey are the only sports I care about. Elitserien and NHL there is not a singel Swed who dont watch Elitserien and NHL.

The best Elisterien club has a budget of 32 milion euros, and 24 milion euros is the average no club below 20. Still this aint anything if we talk about KHL-Russia and NHL clubs. Eliserien used to be the second best in the world after NHL but KHL invested a lot lately.

Sweden will host WC 2013.

Ye I am sure Slovakia will host a great world cup infrastructure looks great. World cup in Latvia wos a disaster I am sure we will never see anything like that again.

I think its time for Sweden to win again we won OG gold 2006 and WC gold 2006 then we have lost in the semifinal or final. Canada and Sweden are the ones who have playd most semi-finals for the past 20 years.

But since we have a lot of stars in NHL you never know. Vancover and Detriot are not likely to miss the play off.

Slovakia has an old team I think you need a generation shift. I love the generation with Palfy, Satan, Bondra. etc..

Football is the most popular sport in europ and icehockey is second most popular sport in europ which is not bad.

Many countries that not even have a national team is atracted of hockey. Problem with Icehockey = Its a very expensive sport just as golf... I mean reverything from infrastructure (halls, erenas, keep the ice cold) to Printer shoes, sticks and a protective dress and helmet.

Icehockey ? I have absolutely no clue about that sport :-k

But someone told me that we -Denmark- will join up as well.

The world-famous icehockey national-team DK also known as "HOLIDAY ON ICE" will rock-and-roll in Slovakia  (mainly roll)

Lets not forget Dart, Bowling and Poker.

We talk about team sports.

There is an easy way, lets make an investigation.

Best payd vollyball player in europ ?, biggest vollyball budget in europ ?, average budget in vollyball CL ?, average audience in CL ?...

Better you stop it right here you are going to make a fool of youself cuz the vollyball nummbers are embarrassing.

Comparing statistics than 1.football is most popular in europ, then 2.icehockey, then 3.basketball, then 4.rugby, than 5.handball, than 6.vollyball.

Handball aint that big as we all want it to be. I wish it wos different.

Anyway this is icehocky.

Several Russian clubs has budgets above 100 milion euros, biggest basketball budget in europ is 50 milon euros average in EL 15 milion euros. Did you know that Bern from SUI have 16.000 audience in 40 strights matches ?. CL 2008/2009 had average above 9.000 and average club budget is 29 milion euros. Did you lnow that more poeple in Poland watch NHL highlights than vollyball CL on TV.

Handball more popular in Germany than Icehockey ? 80.000 people did watch Germany - USA in Schalke arena WC 2010.

Attendance figures in European hockey leagues 2009-2010

Club Country Average Cap. %

1.(1.) SC Bern SUI 15,709 91.70%
2.(2.) Eisbären Berlin GER 14,060 99.01%
3.(4.) Frölunda Gothenburg SWE 11,399 94.64%

League Attendance

1. Sweden - Elitserien 6,190
2. Switzerland - National League A 6,181
3. Germany - Deutsche Eishockey Liga 5,807
4. Russia - Kontinental Hockey League 5,474
5. Czech Republic - Extraliga 5,240
6. Finland - SM-liiga 4,951
7. Austria - EBEL 3,301
8. Slovakia - Extraliga 2,364
9. Great Britain - Elite Ice Hockey League 2,252

Most suprising is to see Zagreb on 35th place 35.
(-) Medvescak Zagreb CRO 5,843

On youtube i noticed that they started to play in Zagreb Aerba in front of 16.000 fans every match. Handball club had 7000 against Cuidad Real this seasons. I think that the hockey club is the explenation.

Icehockey is a very atractive sport, they have a lot of fans even in nation that has no or has a poor national team.

IIHF just figured out how to reach these countries like Hungary and Croatia, leting some play in EBEL and some play in KHL. Soon we might see a Polish team in KHL.

Very likely that Swedish clubs will play in KHL soon and some Danish cubs in Elitserien.

Potential Kontinental Hockey League expansion
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potential_ ... _expansion

While EHF and IHF are sleeping IIHF are working.

Jost look how they look on the EHF bord. That man from Norway has IQ less than 90%. These people will kill handball very soon.

No we dont need europ super handball leauge, right ?.

Good thing with the handball in Europe is that world and European championships has lot of media interest and many fans on place. I would say same level as hockey World Cup in the public figures and media and many times better interest than the basketball European Championships.

The bad thing about handball is that there is very little interest for club handball. There is no logic why such great interest for world and European championships but also little interest for the clubs.

The responsibility should lie with those who promote or "try".

20 milion Germans see the handball national team on TV while one milion watched F4, the same pattern in each count in europ.

So what can we do ? G16 clubs need to break out from EHF and make a ESL, PRO people that can promote in a PRO way.

Handball is fun to watch it has great potentional great TV sport a lot of american action, but with wrong poeple in wrong place at least if we talk about club handball.

So now when we all now that Icehockey is the second most popular sport in europ we might get back on topic.

WC in Slovakia.

How can something be the second most popular sport in Europe when more than half of the continent doesn't even have a professional league in said sport? Yeah, it's really popular in some countries. In just as many countries it's almost unheard of.

Sports in Europe:
1. football
big gap
2. basketball
big gap
3. everything else

And that's the truth.
Women's World Volleyball Championship
20.10.2018, Yokohama (JPN)
1. Serbia 2. Italy 3. China
The history is made. Thank you, girls!

I am sure that many more Serbs watch NHL matches than Swedish who watch NBA. Thats the big difference. NHL is more popular in europ than in USA.

Zagreb is just a poof that you need no league or national team for the sport to be popular. I am very suprised tell you the truthe. 120 min ago i didint even know that they have a team.

Basketball is cheap everybady can play, Icehockey is en expensive sport but all nations know about this sport in europ.

Looking at EL statistics it is obvious that basketball is only big in ESP, Balcan and LTU. ISR and TUR is out side europ and Italy and Russia has smaller interest than expected.

Ye we can cut Sweden in peaces like balcan and you get a few more good hockey nations.

No matter how you look at it Icehockey clubs has bigger budgets and better payd players and why is that ?, and Ice hockey leagues has more poeple in the arena but also ice hockey CL had more than EL in basketball.

Lets get back to topic this is about WC in Slovakia and not lower payd basketball players in europ.

As you all see Sweden play semifinal more or less every year so we will play semifinal again as useal and the only question is what color it will be on the medal.

1. Why are you giving such extreme examples? I meant Olympic sports...
2. Why only team sports? Can't be individual sport more popular? Yes, it can be.
3. You are focused only on volleyball in your post. I know Sweden means nothing in volleyball (like all the countries from Scandinavia), but it doesn't mean it is not popular and you can make laugh on it. And budgets or salary are not factors of popularity for me. With this way of thinking golf and American wrestling should be found very popular, cause golf players and wrestlers are usually very well paid.
4. The main problem with ice hockey is, that so few countries are involved in this discipline. Obviously fewer than in other sports you have mentioned above. There are many reasons of that: no tradition, no funds, the climate etc. Because of that the majority don't care and even can't care about ice hockey.
Plus: ice hockey is the most predictable of team sports. It is almost impossible to win any medal for some other nation than: USA, Canada, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Czech Rep., Slovakia and maybe Belarus. The rest of Europe and world has no chance. Not mentioning Asia, South America or Africa and Oceania. How can be such a sport really popular?

Don't get me wrong. I personally have nothing against ice hockey. Sometimes I like to watch it, when it is about the highest level. The matches between the best countries can be really interesting. But I would never say it is 2nd popular sport in Europe!

Handball is a lot more predictable than icehockey. In Icehockey your GK might have a great day and u have a suprise.

SUI and GER are better than BLS now days and Latvia every now and than suprise.

Vallyball com on, I know that Poland are good but lets get real.

Budgets are based on interest, public, media, audience.

In one, two matches - yes. But as I have said that before: it is impossible to win ANY medal for teams, which are not in "big 7" (CAN, USA, SWE, FIN, RUS, CZE, SVK) and that would be a real surprise. Last time some different team won a WCh medal in ice hockey in... 1953. Quite long time ago. There are much more teams, which can achieve something in any other team sport.
