The playing dates are 29 November to 15 December 2019. The hosting area is Kumamoto region.

Winner of the tournament qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games as World champion. If Japan is the winner, then the 2nd ranked team will take the World Championships' olympic spot.

The next 6 best teams, which are not qualified neither for the 2020 Olympics nor for the 2020 Olympic Qualification Tournaments at that time, qualify for the Olympic Qualification Tournaments.

Moreover, the tournament's final ranking may retroactively change the consequences of the four olympic continental qualification events (2018 European Championships, 2018 African Nations Cup, 2019 Panamerican Games & 2019 Asian Olympic Qualification) relating to olympic qualification system. More exact correspoding details will be known and presented later.

Winner of the tournament qualify for the 2021 WCh.

The minimum age of 16 is fixed for the participation, meaning that players eligible to participate have to turn 16 years on the day of her first match at the latest.

What's truly interesting is how Kosovo keeps getting drawn together with countries that don't recognize it.

Quick update from the European qualifying round.

Belarus already made it to the play-off, by easily winning their preliminary group last week.
Slovakia beat Ukraine 36:32 yesterday and probably secured its play-off spot as well. Hard to believe they'll have problems with Israel or Kosovo. So, congratulations @Wbk!
Group 2 will probably be the most balanced.
Group 4 should come down to the match between Macedonia and Iceland (today at 18h CET).

So the teams advancing from the Qualification Europe Phase 1 to Phase 2 (Play-offs) are:

BLR
ISL - the most notable case: There was a scoring issue to determine the best second placed team in the final matchday. Ukraine needed to outclass Israel with the biggest possible difference to put Iceland into the worst possible position. But Ukrainian team decided for a completely sabotaged 2nd half (+12 at HT, +10 at FT). After that match, Iceland was positioned to trash Azerbaijan by +27 goals to advance, and therefore eliminate UKR, in a match that is going to be judged by the Ukrainian refs. Nevertheless, Icelandic girls showed courage and heart, devastated Azeris with +31, so we can welcome them to the playoffs! On the other side, Ukraine waving goodbye, a deserved payment for a stupid own mistake.
MKD
SUI
SVK

AUT was initially seeded for the Phase 2.

The final list of 18 play-offs participants will be completed with the dozen of teams from the EURO 2018. These 12 teams will be:
● teams ranked 4th-16th excluding France (if France is not ranked among top 4)
or
● teams ranked 5th-16th (if France is ranked among top 4)

Well, the Asian trio aren't already qualified yet, if we are strict and precise, Japan must reach the semifinals first and Korea has to earn their third victory in the preliminary group. So it will be officially valid only after the Japanese tomorrow's victory against Iran and the Korea's against Hongkong ;)

I found an article talking about 6 teams to take part at the Nor.Ca Championship, originally scheduled for Dec this year. In the end, it will take part next year in May. The expected teams are USA, Mexico, Dominican R, Greenland. Let's see who will make it from Puerto Rico, Cuba , Canada. Martinique and Guadeloupe would also be eligible to take part, but I suppose they cannot qualify for the WCh.

Pot 1: NOR, SWE, MNE, HUN, DEN, GER, SRB, ESP, SLO
Pot 2: CRO, CZE, POL, AUT, BLR, SVK, MKD, SUI, ISL

And if I didn't make any mistakes, these will be the pots for the WCh draw:

1: FRA, ROU, NED, RUS
2: NOR, DEN, SWE, HUN
3: MNE, GER, SRB, ESP
4: JPN, KOR, SLO, CHN
5: KAZ, BRA, ANG, SEN
6: AUS, ARG, Nor.Ca, RDC

Of course, for now, only the European teams in pot 1 are fixed, the others have to qualify first. If one fails, the team defeating it will get its in that respective pot.
Also, it could happen that Japan is allocated to pot 3, in which case the winner of the play-off involving Spain will be in pot 4.
And finally, all this could be disproved by God knows what criteria IHF establishes until then.

I am pretty happy with the performance that the Macedonian girls displayed during the qualification tournament against Azerbaijan, Iceland and Turkey. Azerbaijan was knocked with 41:22, followed by 29:21 over Iceland (was quite convincing, surprisingly given that Iceland had some extra experienced players this time round, at some point was +11). And then with Turkey it was a routine 30:23 where the girls played just enough.
With that kind of a play, there is a good chance to see them at the World Cup. The draw is ideal, as we got the "easiest" opponent. There wasn't an easy opponent, but they could've played Norway or Hungary (I feel bad for Belarus and Austria now). Anyhow, it would be an interesting play-off between Macedonia and Slovenia without a doubt. And if it's meant to be, it will be.
And this could be an easier tournament too, as we have Australia this time round, Kazakhstan, also a team from North America and finally Argentina.

My guess would be Canada and probably Cuba (due to their experience)
