Denmark won this tournament back in 1999 when the games took part in Esbjerg, Denmark. Only players born in 1988 or later will be able to participate... it's therefore U17 teams.
In the games 2003 in Paris... handball wasn't on the program, so Denmark is the defending champion.

I remember they showed a couple of the danish games back in 1999 on TV, when Mette Sjøberg was on the team. I wish they show a few matches again.

Well... on the 1999 Youth Olympic-goldwinners-team were also:

Louise Bager Nørgaard(picture)
Berit Kristensen
Lise Knudsen
and yes... Mette Sjøberg

Especially Louise Bager Nørgaard and Mette Sjøberg brought the gold home to Denmark.

Former Youth Olympic Games: http://www.dif.dk/index/ol-eyof.htm
In 1995 there was outdoor female handball played on grass.
In 1997 there was handball - as we know it - for men. Denmark won.
Handball for women was on the shedule: 1999. Denmark won.
And now in 2005 - handball-girls are compeeting yet again.

hmm... we had hoped for yet a Danish Olympic-final, but Russia are allways strong in youth handball.
It's good to see more Danish talents on the way, though :). Maybe we'll see some of these girls on the National team in 5-6 years.
I think Stine Eriksen(Viborg), Sabina Rasmussen(Horsens) and the goalkeepers might make it. Mie Augustesen(Randers) does well, but we have many wing-talents. Hopefully there's a new rising star on the right-back position

Now it's about the bronze-final :? .

Final standing...
1. Russia
2. Norway
3. Denmark
4. Slovenia

It really payed off for Norway to be runner up in group B. Too bad Denmark had to loose for Russia after extra time... it could have been gold instead of bronze. :?
Actually Denmark had the ball in the last minute of ordinary time against Russia, but missed the match-winner  . In the extra time the girls where too tired(maybe dissapointed about the missed match-winner) against the mighty Russian girls and lost 1-5. :(

 Russia must have been without some of thier best profiles in the match against Slovenia in group A. How could they loose that battle... I don't now :?

 Seems it will be a very interesting Youth-Ech. Russia can be beaten... with a little luck. Plus Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Sweden and Germany will probably :?: also show strenght - they're outsiders. Norway didn't qualify for the Youth-EURO... they lost to Slovenia in the qualification-stage.

:) I hope Denmark and Russia will meet in the final and avoid each other in the semies. This is the time... for the first ever Danish triumph on Youth-level. Com'on girls - show them! - bring home the EURO-gold  .
