Tournament in Riesa

Postby LokomotivaFan » Sat Feb 19, 2005 3:29 pm

Does anyone know something about this?
From the 3rd-7th of March there will be a tournament in Riesa, Germany, with Germany, Norway, Spain and Croatia competing.

This is the squad or NT coach Kordi will take on this trip, there are some changes since the EC in Hungary:

Goalkeepers: Ivana Jelcic (Lokomotiva), Sanela Knezovic (Buducnost)
Left wing: Nikica Pusic (Lokomotiva), Maja Zebic (Podravka)
Right wing: Dijana Golubic (Podravka), Anita Gace (Osijek CO)
Pivot: Tihana Sric (TVIN), Marija Popovic (Podravka)
Back players: Maida Arslanagic, Lidija Horvat (both Lokomotiva), Miranda Tatari, Ivanka Hrgovic, Kristina Franic (all Podravka), Zdenka Kruselj, Maja Koznjak (both TVIN), Matea Janes (Dijon)

The greatest news is that Sanela Knezovic is back on the team. :D We really missed her in Hungary. Other changes are: Matea Janes is back on the team. Franic and Koznjak join the NT from the juniors. Maja Cop isn't on the team, which I think is a mistake because she's great in defence and a great pivot. I'm not a big fan of Saric, and Popovic is great but she's a back player that can play the pivot position. And with the return of Knezovic, goalkeepers Borozan and Krizanec were left out.

Yeah...Norwegian team also is going to that tournament as you correctly wrote. I am glad that Knezovic is back. I saw her playing just once when Buducnost played with Ikast and she impressed me with her great saves. That means experience!!!
Norwegian coach selected for the tournament the following players:
01 Therese Pedersen 12 Kjersti Beck 16 Katrine Lunde
03 Katja Nyberg
04 Ragnhild Aamodt
06 Else-MArthe Sørlie Lybekk
07 Randi Gustad
09 Kristine Lunde
10 Gro Hammerseng
11 Kari Mette Johansen
13 Tine Kristiansen
14 Elisabeth Hilmo
15 Camilla Thorsen
18 Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth
19 Vigdis Hårsaker
20 Mette Ruud-Johansen
There are some new faces like Tine Kristiansen (very flexible playmaker from Larvik) and Mette Ruud Johansen, I don't know her plus Else-Marthe returned to NT as Blanco can not play yet.

Our women's handball will never get anywhere I'm becoming more and more sure of that every day.
The coordinator for women's handball in our federation quit a few weeks ago followed by the assistant coach Goran Mrdjen because of allegedly too many obligations in Podravka.
And now Tatari and Franic because of illness and Janes because of injury won't be going to Germany for the tournament. And who does our coach call to replace them, and bare in mind they are all back players??? Krizanec (goalkeeper), Cop (pivot) and Stojkovic (right back). :? Is this normal? I think Cop should have been on the team from the start. But to call a goalie,a pivot and a back to replace 3 backs is crazy in my opinion.
What ever. This tournament looks to be another disaster.

and here is the german team

Sabine Englert - Bayer Leverkusen
Alexandra Gräfer - DJK/MJC Trier
Clara Woltering - Bayer Leverkusen

Nadine Härdter - Borussia Dortmund
Grit Jurack - Viborg HK / Dänemark
Marion Erfmann - VfL Oldenburg
Nina Wörz - HC Leipzig
Maren Baumbach - DJK/MJC Trier
Nora Reiche - HC Leipzig
Susanne Henze - Buxtehuder SV
Nadine Krause - Bayer Leverkusen
Sabrina Neuendorf - Frankfurter HC
Heike Schmidt - VfL Oldenburg
Stefanie Melbeck - Buxtehuder SV
Anja Althaus - DJK/MJC Trier
Ulrike Stange - Borussia Dortmund
Anne Müller - Bayer Leverkusen

heike schmidt is back - she "retired" after the ec. but now she is back with the team for the qualifier matches against poland.- she won't be playing in riesa because of a broken toe.
steffi melbeck is also questionable - anja althaus broke her nose in the league match this weekend.

In Norwegian team which was led by coach of Larvik (it is new method Marit Breivik decided to use. Since now one of the coach of the team in the league will be like assistant of Breivik too and will lead the team in friendly matchs or during tournaments except official matchs on Euro and WC), media remarked that Larvik's players destroyed Spain team. Tine Kristiansen was sharp in attack as well as Linn-Kristin, Johanssen and of course Katja Nyberg was great organizer of attacks and provided plenty times great passes to partners.

Deutschland - Spanien 28 : 19 (10:09)

Kroatien:
Sanela Knezovic (20.-60), Ivana Jelcic (1.-20.)
Ivanka Hrgovic (2), Maja Cop (3), Dijana Golubic (2/2), Zdenka Kruselj, Maida Arslanagic (6/1), Nikica Pusic (2), Maja Koznjak, Lidija Horvat (6), Maja Popovic, Sandra Stojkovic, Maja Zebic, Antonela Pensa (1)

Norwegen:
Terese Pedersen (45.-60.), Katrine Lunde (1.-45.)

I never believed we could get anywhere near the Norwegian girls but we could have done a little bit better. Looking at it from the bright side, 19 out of the 22 goals scored for the Croatian side were scored by players from Lokomotiva, as well as yeasterday against Germany when it was 16 out of 25.
We always play the last game th best so I', hoping we'll win tomorrow against Spain.

From the "foreign" players Lecusanu, Galca and Elisei were called, the others all from the NL( Gatzel, Avadanii(back in form), Maier, Luca, Tamas...) so we will have a quite competitive team...these players are selected for the matches against Turkey, I don't know if the team will change for these tournament

I think Croatia will come with it's best team, only Arslanagic won't be there (I think she has some school obligations). Sojat hasn't announced any list of players so far, but I expect the standard players so far, and I'm hoping Sanela Knezovic will be called.

You never know with him, he hasn't called her for the WC... and his explication was lazy!! BTW I'm going to Moraca now, at 18.30 there is a game between Buducnost and Danilovgrad, it is a play-off of Montenegro, it will be fun   Hope Sanela will have 30 saves, maybe Sojat will call her then

I'll never understand why he didn't call her for Russia. But now with her form and the way she's been playing in Buducnost against some great European teams, he really hasn't got an excuse not to call her. She deseves it.

Let's wait and see... I don't want to underestimate the other keepers of CRO team, but as I know, she is the only goalkeeper of CRO that plays in CL and she does that very good, and that is something.

Things like this always happen in our country. Personal problems getting in the way of what's best for our team. Jelcic, Grubisic and Stancin are very good goalkeepers but Sanela has been by far the best this season. I would dare say one of the most consistent in Europe.
These things make me soooooo mad. :x

And one more thing: Why didn't he call Naukovic to the team? They all wanted to give her citizenship so much, and now that she has it he doesn't call her???? Especially since he knew that Arslanagic wouldn't be available for Riesa. I'm not a big fan of Naukovic, I think young Penezic deserves her chance, she could be a class player in a few years, but Marina would be a reasonable substitution. It's not like we have 20 world clacc left backs in the country.
