Qualification Europe - draw

EHF wrote:The draw for the Women's U20 World Championship 2014 Qualification Europe will take place at the EHF Office in Vienna on Tuesday, 22 October at approximately 11:00 hrs.

22 European teams will be drawn to six different groups. These teams are: Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Spain, France, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine.

Four qualification groups (1 to 4) will consist of four teams each, two groups (5 & 6) will consist of three teams each. From Groups 1 to 3 the top two teams will qualify, while only the first ranked team from Group 4 to 6 qualifies for the final tournament in Croatia.

The nine teams that qualify will join Croatia, Hungary, Russia and Denmark - all four are already qualified - as the European representatives at the Women's U20 World Championship 2014. Overall 24 teams will take part.

The qualification tournaments will be played from 18 to 20 April 2014, the playing dates for the final tournament are 29 June to 13 July 2014.

More info: http://www.eurohandball.com/article/17865

So, after both Men's youth categories, increase to 24 participants for the Women's final tournament confirmed as well.

No teams for Montenegro and Macedonia in European qualification...... :|

All the 2014 JWCH tournament should be played in oprivnica. Anyway, as of February there were still some problems with accomodation capacities [source].

Well, nothing easy having 24 teams in a minitown with the 30k population.

EDIT:
Later, IHF announced the tournament to be played in the 4 cities: Koprivnica, Dugo Selo, Čakovec and Zagreb.

Probably the first information from Croatian media wasn't correct. Medal games to take place in Koprivnica.

it`s no geoblocking.

Slovenia 29-31 Romania
Iceland 21-25 Romania

we`re qualified for Croatia already, so we`re playing an exhibition (for us) against Ukraine. very good generation with Perianu, Pricopi, Tiron, Constantinescu, Zamfirescu, Carabulea, Tănase, Dedu, Enache and others.

Romania was on the lead the whole game, sometimes by 8 goals. However, it was not a good game for us, especially because the girls have made a lot of mistakes. Not the best day for Perianu, Pricopi or Zamfirescu. In the first 30 minutes they used Constantinescu only in defense, but overall she was ok. I liked Cristina Enache and, from time to time, Camelia Carabulea. Anyway, a win is a win, so congratulations! =D>

POL-NED was a huge surprise. These two had almost the same results against the remaining teams of the group so I expected a hard fight for the WCh (it was clear that only the winner can reach the Wch), and then the Dutch simply smashed the Poles. 19-4 HT, it was crazy.
In conclusion, I declare that EHF must be destroyed

This generation's last chance at a medal in junior competitions. Il would be a great boost for our senior Nt if they did it.

Go Pricopi & co!

Russia (2 Gold, 1 Silver) and Denmark (1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze) are clearly
the best teams of their generation. Both nations will be the big favorites for
the Junior WCh. It will be a big surprise if they won't finish on the podium !

Behind the two junior giant nations, it will be wide opened between Norway,
Hungary and Romania...

Surprise? Huge? I think that Dutch girls were only in some kind of crisis in the first two matches, but they've overcome in the very right time ;)

Not yet. If they lose to Ukraine by 5 and Slovenia beats Iceland, Romania is out.

Right, I was really off with the 5, but shouldn't it be a -3? Since we did win against Slovenia. Also, I think the 3-way number of scored goals might matter before the direct match against Slovenia.

Anyway, seems our discussion was purely theoretical.
HT Ukraine - Romania 10:17
Ukraine scored only 3 in the first 16 mins. They look quite bad and Romania seems to be doing just enough to edge as a winner in this one. So, Slovenia - Iceland will be the real decider today.

FT Ukraine - Romania 25:28
Awful last 15 mins by our team who wasted a +8 lead, conceding a 0:4 in the final 3 mins of the match.
Good TO by our coaches who asked them "to be professional and finish the match in a serious manner" telling them "they did everything right until now. but are throwing it away". Unfortunately, the girls didn't react as hoped. A win stays a win though and the team qualifies for the WCh undefeated. Big congratulations for the girls and the coaches, who had to fight good opposition in addition to a series of injuries!

Later edit: #13 from Ukraine (LW) is a really interesting player, somehow continuing the good tradition of fast Ukrainian wings. Though a bit small (but hey, Managharova isn't so tall either), I hope she can develop into a class player.

Yes her, but I could've sworn she was wearing 13. Doesn't matter too much though, she was the most interesting Ukrainian player and I could definitely see her successfully progress to senior level.

How did they do it to get exactly the same pairs which qualified from Europe groups 1-4 in the preliminary round groups A-D?
(i.e. Nor + Cze (A), Ned + Ser (B), Fra + Por (C), Rou + Slo (D))

Uruguay's participation at the 2014 JWCh in danger. They lack 80 000 USD and the deadline is ... today.

EDIT: Uruguay handball federation fix it, so they will participate!

A preparation tournament will take place in the middle of June in Rosersberg, Sweden:

- Scandinavian Open -

- Sweden
- Norway
- Denmark
- Germany (Finland was invited but they chose not to attend, so the place was given to Germany)
idle banter.

With less than two weeks to the tournment, maybe we could list here some players who might deserve special attention.
As for the brazilian team, I should highlight three players:
Tamires Lima: LP, 1.84m. Very strong both in defense and attack.
Tauane Schneider: LB, 1.84m. Strong in defense and attack, with good assisting skills, specially with Line player, and good 9m shooting.
Caroline Minto:RB, 1.85. Better in attack, good shooting power and wing assisting skills. She played for Hypo last season.

Final standing of Scandinavian Open:

Denmark 6 points
Norway 4 points
Germany 2 points
Sweden 0 points

With regard to the Danish team the big question will be how they handle the absence of Anne Mette Hansen. There are several good players in this team but she took up so much space and responsibility at the EC.
Others to keep an eye on:
Mette Tranborg: RB, SK Aarhus, recently had her debut on the Danish A NT with great succes
Line Haugsted: LB, Skive
Nadia Offendal: PM, HC Odense, has had an excellent first season in the Danish league
Anika Meyer: LP, Oldenburg, resembles Mette Melgaard in her style of defense but she is better in attack than Melgaard
Ditte Vind: GK, HC Odense
