So, here's a bittersweet update from Baia Mare:

 The council of Baia Mare gathered yesterday and decided that they'll give money for sports just like they did before this nasty situation happened. So, HCM Baia Mare will participate in Champions League, I guess. (source)

 Mayor Cherecheș is accused by DNA of having known about Liviu Bala's money-making machine, since he signed all the papers and nothing ever happened in the club without him. As the tentacles of DNA spread further inside the club's activity, more bad things come to light. Allegedly, 13 players signed papers and gave power of attorney to one of the leaders of HCM, who used this to make some illegal moves and gain some money. It's a messy situation, head to toe; hope it won't affect the team's performance. (source)

I said it years ago (and some were calling me crazy), but I'll stand by it: professional sport cannot be 100% (not even 50%) funded by public money! That's against the nature of professionalism itself.

The rest is just an instance of the long, old story of Romanian original democracy.
By the way, DO NOT imagine this is not happening elsewhere. Most handball teams in Romania function like this and should (if DNA are to do their job all the way) be in the same spot.

Ref, this is not truth. Ceaușescu didn`t fix for Steaua. actually Steaua and Dinamo had influence, but Dinamo a bit more because it was the team of the police so they could have even listened phones. whilst Steaua was the team of the Army. for Steaua, it was Valentin his son and usually for the militaries it was seen as a disgrace to win fixed games. it is well known a football Romanian Cup match when Steaua withdrew from the field against Dinamo because of the refereeing.

regarding municipality funding sports, it is met in all other the countries outside North... in Spain they fund cycling teams

^ Should've never extended her contract. She never delivered and she never seemed truly involved. She came there for a fat check and that is that. But, poor management decisions cost and a contract is a contract.

What check would that be?
The coach that left the male team in Oktober told he hadn't seen any salary since May?

Bad news from Baia Mare. Gazeta sporturilor says that some players haven't been paid for 4 months or so; many players will fill papers to FRH, requesting to be released from their contracts if they don't receive their salaries. Ale do Nascimento was the first, and she refused to train with the team, now Abbingh seems to have lost her patience (if things don't change soon, she'll go to some german team, allegedly). There's more, HCM is forced by FRH to pay some money to Arenhart, they have to give her 15.000 euros until the 20th of january So, it's a lot going on for both CSM and HCM at the moment. ](*,)

We don't know it either. This mayor is a buffoon - both being revengeful and threatening are part of his daily life. ](*,) :^o

The article, however, says that today represents the ending point of the city council funding the handball in Baia Mare.

Extremely bad timing, if you ask me - the team plays better than ever before, with an important match left and the QF-s just around the corner.
