2018/19 EHF Champions League

Postby Lucy » Mon May 14, 2018 8:50 pm

Time to see to next season
I have many question/thoughts, maybe this good be a good discusion

* Would Russia/Romania/France/Germany apply for an extra place
* Would Poland get a direct place this year also?
* Would Savehof get a direct place?
* Would Turkey finally got a place in CL after good performance in EHF-cup
* Would Vardar take a place, they have almost lost the hole team
* How many team would get a direct place, and how many team do you think need to go threw qualifications?
* Which team do you know would participate?
* Which team is national champions and would like to participate?
* Date for announcment for teams by EHF

:D

LOL :D I was planning to open a similar topic early today.
If I don't bother you, I'd like to add also EHF Cup participants.

Romania: CSM in Champions League ofc; HCM Ramnicu Valcea (later stage, as they are Romanian Cup finalists), SCM Craiova and CS Magura Cisnadie in EHF Cup. Craiova expressed their intention to apply for Champions League Qualification and they are planning some moves in order to replace Dumanska, Klikovac and Pricopi.

I add a fresh info): Romania may be 2nd in EHF Rankings for season 2019/2020, so there will be 2 direct spots in Champions League group stage for romanian teams next summer. To be confirmed. Sorry for off-topic.

Metz and Brest should be there. One in group stage and the other in qualification, but it will be known after french finals. Also, happy to see Denmark will finally have 2 clubs with deeper squads in Champions League. =D>

For Germany; THC has won the championship. Bietigheim is second and wants to apply for a wildcard.

Brest has to beat Besancon 5+ goals (21-25 lost first match) in order to be in finals, and dream about CL.
So let's wait for tomorrow's match... :D

Yes. Lada wants a wild-card. The official application was sent by Russian handball federation.

SCM Craiova (EHF Cup winner) will apply for a wildcard and I JUST HOPE EHF will be fair to give it straight directly to the Champions League groups since Polish team also got it in the last season (for nothing).

Manchester United on football (I informed myself) played in CL groups without qualifying to the competition.

I hate this parallel with football.
What you probably don't know is that UEFA's regulations actually stipulate this: the UEFA Cup winner will play Champions League groups. ;)

Why would that be fair? They didn't win the the championship in their respective country.

With "Polish team" I assume you mean Gdynia, which actually won the championship in their country and therefore had a right to be there. That they weren't good enough is another matter.

If you want to draw a 'unfair' comparison, use Brest - who actually got straight through to the group stage and didn't even have to qualify. ](*,) . The same happened the year previously with Rostov. Let's not even mention that Brest finished last in their group (yes, it was a difficult group) and then were thrown out by Vipers in the EHF-Cup.

vlad_impaler wrote:Manchester United on football (I informed myself) played in CL groups without qualifying to the competition.

They got it because they won the Europa League. Such a rule doesn't exist in handball.

____________

Gdynia got a place in the group matches, didnt have to qualify

But in 16/17 Lublin only got qualifications game, but they didnt qualify
In 15/16, 14/15 and 13/14 Lublin got a direct place

Pot 1 - Gyor, CSM, Budućnost, Rostov/Vipers
Pot 2 - Vipers/Rostov, DEN1, FRA1, Thuringer
Pot 3 - FTC, DEN2, Krim, ...

Maybe Savehof gets direct place in Pot 3.
Pot 4 should be 2 direct places (gifts) and 2 Qual. Tournaments... Brest, Lada, Valcea, BBM, Podravka, Lublin are candidates ? :D

I guess Rostov is in Pot 1

Do you think Vardar will compete in Europe next year?
They have lost the entiry team

I guess that they will have 3 qualifications group and 13 teams that will get a place
Larvik is a candidate for qual.tournaments and also turkish team and spanish and austrian
Dont think Belarus

NOR1 and RUS1 are quite equal regarding ranking... So it's up to EHF to calculate :)
Probably Rostov has thin advantage.

This is just a prediction if Vardar doesn't apply for CL. I doubt they will play CL with kids. #-o

Reaction when teams get to know Vardar as their opponent:

2017/2018 - OMG, NO!
2018/2019 - YES, PLEASE!

Only in womens handball. There is just too much short term thinking in this sport which results in such clusterfucks.
idle banter.

2015/16 - NOR1 1/4 Final, RUS1 1/4 Final
2016/17 - NOR1 1/4 Final, RUS1 Main Round + RUS2 Group Stage
...
So very equal ranking...

Hungarian championship is still "open", so FTC might be 1st and goes to pot1 XD

Audi would win +30 if needed... So it's not open. :)

That comment shows, how much you are not aware of the situation. The following opponents are much weaker than both teams, so FTC can also win by 20+ goals in the next games, especially in the first one.

On the other hand, it is the HU championship so you cannot win by 30 goals so easily.

ETO has a bit better chance but that is all.

Well-well, I am not that sure at all.
http://www.nemzetisport.hu/kezilabda/no ... 18-2580321

2 rounds are back and Győr has
Budaörs–Győri ETO
Győri ETO–Békéscsaba
Not so strong team BUT Budaörs at home will be tough while Békéscsaba is in much better form than in the past months.
Do not forget that Győr is tired as hell, Bódi almost couldn't walk, Amorim broker her finger, etc.
I expect them matches to be +9 and +8

FTC has also 2 matches:
Kecskemét–FTC
FTC–Vác
Kecskemét is very weak team that lost with 20 goals against FTC when there was no pressure at all... Vác is stronger(even they have beaten Kecskemét with 17 goals) but they are like a little brother team of FTC and they never had a chance to win this match but what not giving FTC a small present instead?
I expect the results to be +15 and +8

I think my assumptions are not far from the expectations and they would mean that the 7 goal difference would be nearly totally vanishing.
