yes he still plays handball. he plays in a team in Dubai UAE where he gets more money than how he would get in Europe , he is still class but he never gets called to the national team although we need him. it is really sad when you know that his last WCH was in 2009 :(
last thing I heard is that Qatar wants to have him in their team for WCH 2015. i hope that wont happen!

so my assumption is right. Well I guess from the pictures that he earns his last Dollars from his name. In Dubai the training level is not comparable to Europe. I just think he should lack meanwhile the class to play even for Qataris. And I read that Qataris stopped their policy to hire foreigners. Last one was Stojanovic, the goalkeeper.

well it is kinda true. sometimes i see parts from his games in UAE league. the league there is laughable. bunch of amateurs. my local U18 team is way stronger and more talented than the team he plays for.
but his talent and class is still there. he was the top scorer in the last asian club competition. and teams in that tournament are allowed to have players from europe on loan. many players from slovenia , croatia , serbia ...etc play in such tournaments.
anyways I agree with you level of handball is so weak outside europe. it is shame more than half of our best players play in Qatar and Tunisia :(
in the good old days especially from 95-2001 when egypt was a top team we had many players in Europe. now we have noone and that explains our weakness nowadays.

Where did all these Egypts play? I normally follow only Bundesliga and can't remember that we ever had someone from Egypt here. Did they play in Spain? Well I guess that sports in general changed after collapse of Mubarakh system, right? BTW since your are familiar with Handball in Egypt. Do you know the name Jörn Uwe Lommel. He was national coach around 10 years ago.

My ex local team player Hany El Fakharany played there in Füchse Berlin from 2007 till 2009, it is crazy because he is an average player and he managed to play there in Bundesliga. there was another guy who played there in 80s but his name is not in my mind right now.
In spain we only had hussein zaky. in France our famous goalie Mohamed Nakib played for Paris Handball. Ashraf Awad - Abdou the second top scorer of wch 1997 he played for Montpellier HB. we had other players who played in Portugal and Austria. plus our league itself was too strong. but now teams sell the best players to Qatar. and recently Tunisian clubs keep signing our youngesters.
Of course I know Uwe Lommel. he was our coach when we won the African championship 2004. he also coached our youth team in youth olympics 2010 when we won the gold medal. he also won the gold medal with us in the all africa games 2011. he is a good coach that had some successes but also failed in some easy games like vs Algeria in semi final in the last african championship. and that cost us not to qualify for olympics for the first time after 5 apperarances in a row!
there are more important germans in our handball history than Lommel . first one is Paul Tedman ( dunno if that is how his name spelt or not) he was in charge of our team from 90 to 92 ...won our first two african championships. before him we used to live in the shadow of Algeria and Tunisia ....that is his pic I wonder if you can recognize him
Image

the other german is Ulrich Weiler our coach in WCH 1995. he did a good job because that was the first time for us to reach the quarter final ...we finished 6th in the final standings and hardly lost to Russia for the 5th place game after extra time. I dont remember why he didnt stay with us but it was the real start for the egyptian handball to shine internationally.

Very interesting story. Well I can tell you why it was possible by El Farakhany to play for Füchse at that time. Now that you mention it I remember the name. At that time Lommel was coach for Füchse and 2007 Füchse were only promoted to Bundesliga from second league and had a budget which was may be on fourth of today. so they just had a good starting seven and the rest of the players were pretty cheap. Lommel must have seen some talent in El Farakhany. was he a left hand?
Tiedemann is one of the best renowned coaches in German handball. He was coach for SC Magdeburg and national coach of East Germany. His problem was that he was from the the east. And as you may know if systems collapse as in East Germany experts who belonged to the elite have a tough time to find their way in the new system.
It is interesting that tunisian clubs are able to pay their players salaries. I thought there would be may be one or two professional clubs in tunisia and the rest university clubs. Do you have a national league at the moment in Egypt?

Norway rested some players like Kjelling, Erevik, Paulsen and Bjornsen...but still very disappointing result for Norway...

Great matches yesterday in the Golden League in Denmark. The day had 2 surprises in store, after 2 great matches.
France - Slovenia 26:27
Norway - Denmark 32:31

France tested extensively their full squad and Omeyer and Karabatić L. sat in the stands. The match was a small roller-coaster with both teams leading by 3 on several occasions.

Denmark was without Rene Toft(isn't at golden league), Mads Mensah(njured), Søndergaard(minor injury against Slovenia). Spellerberg and Møllgaard got a lot of playing time at the expense of Mikkel Hansen. Generally all the important players were saved for France.
