-Spain will win this - beating France in the final (if they can be bothered on an Olympic year) or Denmark (if they are not). But Spain will be to much to handle for either of them. They probably would have been favourites even if they had had the courage to play with Spanish goalies, too. They are big and strong, even stronger now with Baena. It is not pretty, mostly Power, but it has worked for the French, and will for Spain, too. Defense looks inpenetrable. Denmark's play may be more pleasing to the Eye, but win they will not.
- Poland has a chance to win a medal, but cannot go all the way without a proper playmaker. It worked in stretches in Qatar, but will not over a whole tournament.
- Croatia or Poland and Hungary will play for Fifth. Croatia will be looking too much towards the future. No higher than fourth (unless possibly they play a disinterested France for third). Can't see Hungary going past Denmark or Spain, but they are probably the strongest of the rest on the second half.
- Iceland and Norway will fight it out for the last remaining Olympic quali spot. Not because they have very strong teams, but because Slovenia and/or Germany will halt Russia's progress. And who else is there?

-Iceland have a better team than Norway, but they can be inexplicably poor sometimes. They were very bad in WC 2015, and the goalkeepers are as Always a problem. If they had done a Qatar and bought a goalkeeper from Sweden (Sweden's fourth or fifth choice would have been enough) they would have won at least two Gold medals in years past. But even that would not be enough now. I hope that they will give Snorri his well-earned pension and play Atlasson as PM. Palmarsson will run the show anyway.

-Serbia, Belarus, Sweden and Montenegro will go home early. Macedonia will probably focus on the Olympics as they are virtually guaranteed a spot. What other sport would give an automatic spot in the Olympics to the teams finishing first, second (or third) and ninth?!

- If there is a wild card somewhere it will have to be Slovenia. They have done it before, and have a decent team. But surely fifth, tops.

Euro 2014 was a bit dull, as the top four were too far ahead of the others. I would love to see a few upsets this time, preferrably from Iceland and Slovenia, as they play the prettiest handball among the minnows, but will not hold my breath waiting.

Polish squad:

GKs: Sławomir Szmal (Vive Tauron Kielce), Piotr Wyszomirski (Pick Szeged)

PMs: Karol Bielecki (Vive Tauron Kielce), Piotr Chrapkowski (Vive Tauron Kielce), Rafał Gliński (Górnik Zabrze), Michał Jurecki (Vive Tauron Kielce), Bartosz Konitz (SPR Wisła Płock), Krzysztof Lijewski (Vive Tauron Kielce), Michał Szyba (RK Gorenje Velenje);

Wings: Michał Daszek (SPR Wisła Płock), Przemysław Krajewski (Azoty Puławy), Jakub Łucak (WKS Śląsk Wrocław), Adam Wiśniewski (SPR Wisła Płock);

Pivots: Bartosz Jurecki (SPR Chrobry Głogów), Piotr Grabarczyk (HSV Hamburg), Kamil Syprzak (FC Barcelona Lassa)

I wish we had this tournament in Poland couple years ago, because we had better team that time. However, I think we are still able of winning a medal, although it will be quite difficult, cause we all know how hard competition handball Euro is. there are no weak teams involved.

I hope we beat Serbia today - there is nothing better than a victory in opening game on homeland. I count also no defeating Macedonia, beacause it may be much more complicated against France.

One more thing - I suppose it will be a great tournament with nice atmosphere and big audience in the venues (not only during "Polish" games). :)

What a strong team.

Btw, it would be easy to create another medal contender team from those ones who are missing the EC.

I mean:

GK: Ivic, Sego
LW: Sprem, Strlek, Nincevic
LB: D. Pavlovic
MB: Obradovic
RB: Buntic, Ivic
RW:
LP: Sulic, Vori

You probably mixed up Nikčević and Ninčević. First one is in Poland ant he's Serbian. Ninčević wasn't picked by headcoach so he isn't in Poland. And he is Croat, born in Zadar.

I would not get too exited. They´ll loose to Belarus ad miss out on goal difference....

Yep, that was the name of the game before this NEW Norway. New Norway will NEVER lose to Belarus :)

It's nice to see the good old Icelandic defense self destruct is still there. It wouldn't be the same without it. :|

Ah, so frustrating again today. We played well against great opponents like France and Poland, but we forget to reward ourselves for it. Especially today against Poland we had such a great opportunity to grab at least one point. We lost the game in little details, Lazarov missing 2 penaltys, Stoilov hitting the post, Manaskov stepping on the line after a fast break and therefore the goal was ruled out. Also some referee decisions, but that is understandable when you play against the host counyty In defense, in both games we had big problems defending the line players. Especially Syprzak today was very good. Polish backcourt players were non-existing in the first half, but Michal Jurecki stepped up in the second half. Also Szmal had some good saves. Now the focus will be on the game against Serbia in a winner takes all contest. I believe we have a little bit more quality in our squad, but it will be a very difficult and nervy match. Hopefully we will be able to win and progess to the next round, in which we will have some less difficult opponents.

:) Your team and Norway are still so lovely to watch! Boasting with quality, but never know what to expect. I think it's as exciting to watch your guys as it is with Romania's girls. Simply not for those with heart issues.

Can't really miss it on goal difference unless there will be 2 draws in the final round. Otherwise, direct match will make the difference and all teams will also be looking at the other encounter as well.
"New" Norway is like "old" Norway: delightful to watch, but will it hold in a long tournament? Careful at old Belarus, they've played really good attacking handball today and in general it is a very experienced team!

Loosing Myrhol was also a HUGE blow for us, just speculation but 4 points would have been very likely with Myrhol on the pitch.

Poland also missed a lot of chances and had so many turnovers... If we had lost the game having been on the lead with 4 goals differnece two imunutes befeore the end I would have shot myself. ;)
The game was very exciting, but I wouldn't say it was a good handball. We keep on winning with heart and ambition, but there is a lack of quality in that. We need to play much better, if we want to achieve anything. I'm affraid any stronger team will crush us (for example France on Tuesday).
I wish Macedonia luck against Serbia - it might be a battle, but I suppose Macedonians should be the winners.
